Leadership Team

Dan Oswald

CEO

Dan has been the CEO of BLR since 2011. He joined M. Lee Smith Publishers as president in 2003 and then purchased the company from Lee Smith in January 2005. In February 2011, M. Lee Smith Publishers merged with BLR to form a new company doing business under the BLR brand. Previously, Dan was president of Lawrence Ragan Communications, Inc. Prior to joining Ragan in 1995, he spent four years with Aspen Publishers as a marketing manager and three years with Center for Management Systems, a privately held information company based in Iowa.

Lawton Miller

CFO

Lawton joined Simplify Compliance in April 2008 as CFO after serving in similar executive positions in the office supply and medical industry for 16 years. He previously served as vice president and CFO of Radar Business Systems, SVP - CFO of MyOfficeProducts and CFO of ReMedPar, a remanufacturer of medical imaging machine parts. His responsibilities include oversight of the financial/accounting, event logistics, and information technology functions. Lawton received his BS in Accounting from Lipscomb University and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the Tennessee Society of Public Accountants.

Kim Mesecher

COO

Kim has held various positions of increasing responsibility within the organization since she joined in 1993. In her role as Chief Operating Officer, Kim is responsible for CRM operations and internal shared service staffs including: Customer Service, Circulation, Data Services management and reporting, Sales Operations, Web Development, and e-Commerce.

Ben Polly

Chief People Officer

Ben joined Simplify Compliance in September 2017 as Vice President, Human Resources. Ben has held numerous positions of increasing responsibility throughout his career across multiple industries including hospitality, entertainment, medical services, and manufacturing. He was most recently with Gerdau Long Steel North America where he served in various roles for almost 15 years. Ben’s responsibilities include oversight of all people-related services across all divisions of Simplify Compliance. Ben received his BS in Business Management and Computer Information Systems from Lipscomb University.

Rafael Cardoso

Chief Corporate Development Officer

Rafael heads up corporate development for Simplify Compliance, defining and executing the company’s inorganic growth strategy. It's his job to understand what is happening in the industry, to identify risks and opportunities for the business, and to lead strategic acquisitions and partnerships that enable Simplify Compliance to sustain growth and capture market share. Prior to his current role, Rafael was president of Simplify Compliance's BLR brand and held other executive roles within the organization since joining in 2007. He started his career in publishing at the Taunton Press, a privately held consumer-based media company, and is an alumnus of Salve Regina University in RI.

Dave Cella

Chief Product Officer

For 20 years, Dave has served in various executive roles within the learning and information services industry. Prior to joining Simplify Compliance in September 2018, Dave was the VP of product management for Jones and Bartlett Learning, an Ascend Learning company. He started with Jones and Bartlett in 2005 as publisher, leading the development of the Health Professions division. In 2011, he was appointed vice president of product operations for another Ascend business unit, the National Healthcareer Association (NHA), before joining the Jones and Bartlett executive team in 2014. Dave earned his MBA from Babson College and his BS in Resource Economics from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. He is also certified in Pragmatic Marketing.
